Tucson AZ Sonoran Desert

This original landscape painting captures a moment of quiet discovery in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. While living in Arizona, my wife and I made several day trips to Tucson, and during a hike, we came upon this hidden oasis where we stopped to have lunch. What struck me most were the awesome, "barren" trees that seemed to reach across the sky, framing the water with their twisted, elegant limbs.
The painting is designed to leave the viewer with a sense of serenity. I focused on the contrast between the lush, blue water of the desert lake and the dry, rugged textures of the surrounding earth. In the distance, the silhouettes of Saguaro cacti stand against a pale sky, anchoring the scene in the unique geography of Southern Arizona. By using expressive brushwork and a natural palette of ochres and sage greens, I’ve tried to recreate the peaceful atmosphere of that afternoon hike.
