French Village
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.
This landscape painting was inspired by a trip through the South of France. While traveling by bus through the countryside, I was captivated by the way the small, historic villages seemed to be naturally carved into the rolling hills. I took several photos during that tour, and this piece is my exploration of that unique European geography.
In this work, I used my geometric and cubist-inspired style to deconstruct the village into a cluster of warm, earth-toned blocks. I wanted to show the relationship between the structured architecture of the homes and the fluid, sweeping lines of the hills and valleys behind them. By simplifying the forms and using a palette of ochre, terracotta, and soft greens, I’ve tried to capture the timeless, peaceful energy of a French hillside.
