View from Brooklyn
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included..
I created this new original artwork to capture a scenic view of the waterfront in DUMBO, Brooklyn. This piece is particularly meaningful to me because it is based on photographs I took while strolling through the neighborhood where I used to live; I wanted to recreate the specific atmosphere of the East River that stayed with me from those walks.
I chose to split the composition horizontally, allowing the iconic Manhattan Bridge and the vast, purplish sky to dominate the upper half. You can see the steel structure of the bridge stretching across the water, with the Manhattan skyline just visible in the distance.
In the foreground, I focused on the river's edge, rendering the murky gray water as it splashes against the rocky shoreline. I also included the large brick building with its arched windows to the right, capturing that unique blend of historic architecture and modern glass that I remember so well from my time living there."
