Cloudy Day over Lower Manhattan
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.
Cloudy Over Lower Manhattan is a tribute to a view I have cherished for years. This cityscape painting captures the iconic lower Manhattan skyline as seen from Brooklyn Bridge Park. Living just a short walk away, I often visited the park to take photos and admire the way the buildings interact with the New York Harbor. I have created at least half a dozen paintings from this specific vantage point, as I am constantly inspired by the scale and energy of the city across the water.
In this work, I took an impressionistic approach to the sweeping, cloudy sky and the movement of the harbor water. However, my signature geometric and cubist-inspired style remains evident in the structured, vertical forms of the skyscrapers. I wanted to capture the soft, filtered light of a cloudy day while maintaining the architectural strength of the city's silhouette. By blending these styles, I’ve tried to convey the quiet majesty of a view that always made me feel at home.
